The Lehigh County Emergency Management Agency and Northampton County Emergency Management Services are finalizing an update to the Bi-County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, and invite the public to review the draft plan and provide input. The Hazard Mitigation Plan is a living document that communities use to reduce their vulnerability to hazards. Hazard Mitigation Plans form the foundation for communities to use to reduce their vulnerability to hazards. Hazard Mitigation Plans form the foundation for a community’s long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses and break the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction and repeated damage. The plan creates a framework for risk based decision making to reduce damages to lives, property and the economy from future disasters. Further, maintaining this plan via the five year update cycle is a requirement in order for the Counties and their municipalities to maintain eligibility to receive Federal mitigation grant funding.
As part of the planning process, outreach to the public and stakeholders are critical to the development of comprehensive strategies to manage hazard risk, and Lehigh and Northampton Counties are seeking your input to this planning process. For more information please visit
http://www.ncem-pa.org/ and click on the Hazard Mitigation tab. The draft sections of the plan are available on this website for public review and comment.
This plan will be available for public comment from March 25, 2013 until April 8, 2013. All comments received by April 8, 2013 will be reviewed and considered for incorporation by the Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee.
